PESSOA CLOCK

Image
In an attempt to formalise the ritual of waiting, a clock was devised to leave traces of poems while it was turned on. The clarity of the traces is directly proportional to the amount of time one has to wait. The text engraved in the base is a poem by Pessoa, depicting concepts of time, and the futility of understanding them fully. Cinnamon is slowly dropped by the rolling cylinder, leaving traces on the street. "To take advantage of time, but what is time to be taken advantage of...." Fernando Pessoa, APOSTILA (11-4-1928)

CINEMATOGRAPHIC GARDEN

Image
This proposal for British Film Institute merges an existing natural park at the edge of Regents Canal in London. Functioning as a gate for the natural park and the researchers artificial landscape, the two cinema screens become hybrids and introduce alternative functions. The smaller and above ground cinema functions as a café with views over the canal during the day. The larger and underground cinema is the main library during the day, allowing for daylight during library hours. An artificial garden is created to house the research facilities. From an archive for BFI's microfilm library, to research and study pods covered with grass, pavilions that project films onto trees, underwater mini cinemas and hidden film screens, all recreate archetypical garden elements.

THE STUDIO

The Studio is an experimental architectural platform focusing on extreme environments. Projects span through various scales and spheres of action, often challenging the status-quo through inventiveness and a cross-disciplinary approach. Collaborative work with the scientific community and technical institutions  is part of every project we undertake. We truly believe that what exists is only a small part of what is possible, and we design driven by this principle. The Studio is run by architect David A. Garcia.
